The challenge

Two plant faults. Separate systems. Methodical investigation.

Two separate plant faults required investigation during the initial attendance. The swimming pool was experiencing insufficient water heating, requiring investigation of the heat exchanger and associated heating and control system.

At the same site, a separate fault was present within the AHU electric heater-battery system. The installation incorporated high-current three-phase switching equipment together with multiple contactors, relays and staged control circuits, requiring systematic electrical and controls fault-finding rather than straightforward component replacement.

Investigation & diagnosis

Follow the operating path before replacing equipment.

ElectroLogic carried out electrical and operational checks across the relevant plant and control equipment.

For the AHU heater battery, the existing control panel, power-switching equipment, contactors and associated control circuits were investigated under operating conditions. Current measurements taken during the investigation showed heater loads of approximately 174–177 A.

The investigation identified deterioration and failure of the high-current contactor associated with the heater battery. The condition of the component meant replacement was required.

Remedial works

Planned replacement and operational checks.

A second attendance was arranged specifically to complete the AHU heater-battery remedial work. The defective high-current contactor was removed and replaced.

Existing high-current power connections and associated control wiring were reinstated and checked. Electrical and operational checks were then carried out to confirm correct operation of the repaired switching arrangement.
